I have been following the stories and spread of Alabama rot and was wondering what everyone thinks about using a blast dryer for the removal of water and remaining mud after washing dogs legs. However thorough I think I am being there is always a small amount of mud on the towels used for drying and the dogs legs are never completely dry. As it appears that AR is bacterial then perhaps making sure that the dogs are really dry and clean might help, I have no real knowledge but it would seem to be a logical step in trying to prevent this dreadful disease.

It is unknown whether so called Alabama Rot ( which it actually isn't) is caused by a bacteria, a virus or a toxin. It is advised to wash dogs' legs, tummies, etc after a walk but no-one knows if this actually helps. The disease has moved on a lot geographically since 2012 when it was discovered in the New Forest. In the last month it has occurred in Manchester, Bury, Bolton, W.Yorks.,
Co Durham. Leek, Petworth, Brighton, Somerset, Devon and Powys, NOT the N.Forest. Wherever you walk, there is a chance of your dog picking up this awful problem but the chance really is extremely small. Approximately 10 - 30 cases a year are diagnosed. The highest incidence is from November to May.
