Hi my bitch has started bring up frothy liquid and her stools have been softer than usual (not overly runny) and she tries to go to the toilet for longer than usual but produces not a lot at all. Is this normal as pups are growing. She is showing and is eating and drinking normally. Thanks

long time since I had a litter. last time I got a spray to put on the teats before & after feeding. it just protected the teats and didn't harm pups. you can get same for humans. I can remember what it was called, anyone help please?

It doesn't sound like it's related to pregnancy to me - those symptoms sound like they are a gastro issue/colitis.

You could try some probiotics like ProKolin and some slippery elm powder - both those are fine during pregnancy.  If it continues...

The 2 meds most commonly used when ABs are needed for colitis are Synulox (or similar) and metronidazole.  They work against different bacteria/organisms so they address different things.  I believe Synulox is ok during pregnancy but metronidazole definitely is not.  So if you go to the vet about it, be sure to tell them she is pregnant and double check before giving any meds that they are safe during pregnancy.  (With trusty Google.  Since many vets seem to get this wrong.)  You might want to get a faecal sample done as that could help identify what it is - although I've never had any luck with faecal samples, they never seem to show anything even when the ABs then work.
