Just wondering which wormer you would recommend for new pups? My little lot are fast approaching two weeks.

Panacur for me every time.  I've used it for donkeys years.  Did you Panacur the bitch during pregnancy?  This leaves pups 98% worm free.  Pregnancy hormones trigger encysted worms in mum so they are passed on to her pups in the uterus.  I use Panacur 10% and start pups at 14 days.  The treatment is for 3 days.  At this point you worm mum again, but only on day 1, because you will be using the full adult dose at this point.  (During pregnancy it is only a quarter dose from day 40 daily to 2 days post whelp.)

I agree,  and Panacur deals with the worm larva at much mote immature stave,  so worming is needed less often at three to four week i tervals ratber tban two weeks.

If wormed properly you never see axult worms.

I now have wormed bitches in pregnancy for 8 generations.  This means less chance of larva encyzting in bitch pups tissuez to pass onto next generation.

Sherleys is what I've always used, dosing from 2 weeks and every 2 weeks to the time they went home.   I wormed my bitches BEFORE they were mated, usually using Panacur.   Rarely did I see ANY sign of worms in our puppies.  Mum was wormed again when the litter was 2 weeks.

I prefer Drontal Puppy as it's only one dose, instead of a 3 day dose needed - it's just easier.

I'm not a breeder as it seems far too stressful never mind my lack of knowledge

. I do think that choosing and using a product that is loaded with chemicals and pesticides based on what is easy to use is pretty shocking.

Always wormed bitch as soon as come in season if breeding from her (with Drontal) & used Panacur paste on pups with my last 2 litters.

I used drontal. No problems with it untill Cain reached 10 weeks then it made him very sick, gave it to my friend for her litter and she had no problem.

Recently used Panacur 10% Liquid and would really recommend it.

What are you talking about?  Drontal Puppy is extremely safe and effective and used by many hundreds of thousands of breeders, the world over.  It is just as effective and safe as Panacur. 

Given that they are equally effective and safe, I choose the product which is easier.  Thanks for the snarky remark, though.

Different wormers suit different pups/breeds/individuals, so some will have a reaction to Panacur.  Others might react to Drontal.  Breeders know their lines and what their particular dogs and lines are ok with.  None of that means that, overall, one is safer than the other. 

Any product which has been licensed for use in the UK has been through vigorous testing procedures.

I am currently using Drontal. Went into the vets to pick up Panacur (which is what I used with my last litter 6 years ago) and they recommended Drontal, this time. My pups have had their first lot and are doing great.

Actually the Drontal does not kill the earlier larval stages as does the active ingredient in Panacur. It does tackle late stage immature larva,  so needs dosi g morw frequently,  but as you say in single dose.

As for Sherleys,  which is an old style wormer,  piperazine and only treats adult stages.

So you pays your money and makes your choice,  as they say.
