Further to my recent post, I'd appreciate any positive replies as I'm going away at 9.30 this morning !!
She had a painkilling injection on Friday tea time, Saturday I gave her her first dose of oral Metacam.
Sunday morning she had a loose poo with a spot of fresh blood, then another loose stool later with a spot of fresh blood. I did not give her the Sunday dose because of this. She has also been off her food but has been hand fed sandwich type chicken.
Yesterday evening she was almost back to her usual self, wanting to play and begging for our food but not eating her own.
In the night we have been up 3 times. On two occasions I have wiped her bum and there has been some fresh blood. The last time I watched her - she sat down twice and attempted to poo but nothing came out.

Obviously I will ring the vet at 9am but I am going away and would appreciate any advice or experience.
I've googled it and it's a known side effect but I'd like to know what the vet might do and how quickly it will clear up ?

We always tell owners that dogs can sometimes react to NSAIDs such as Metacam with either diarrhoea or vomiting, and if this happens to stop giving the meds straight away and to contact us for advice on an alternative.

I don't think she'll need an alternative, she seems back to normal now.
My concern is the fresh blood. She had one oral dose at teatime on Saturday then the blood started Sunday morning.
How quickly could it stop and will she need treatment to help it stop ?
