Do the dogs shed and would they be a good dog for the house.

Yes they do shed and if you don't mind slobber for 4 foot up the walls they are lovely pets. Some people don't mind slobery dogs (my sister) others hate it (me). Are you a for or against slobber, if against a St Bernards not for you, better just go buy yourself a bottle of brandy.:)
