Could a bitch develop closed pyometra after giving birth? Puppies are almost 3.5 weeks already, and she's gone quiet last couple of days behaving quite sad and as if she were tired. She lost weight a little bit but in all other respects she is normal, eating, toileting, looking after pups being a very good mother. No stinky discharge at all. Because of this initially I though it was just general tiredness as her body is producing milk etc, but today its just got me worries the sad way she behaves, and I suddenly thought about pyo.
Also yesterday she snapped at one of her pups, which would usually be normal given their age and the mother starting discipline at about this time, only the pup wasn't doing anything much really just gently trying to play as she was lying with them, the pup was mouthing her face but really really gently. And she snapped at the poor thing.
I've booked appointment with the vet tomorrow morning, still worried though and don't seem to find accounts of people who may have had this happen to them, close pyo after birth... Technically she is within dangerous time though, as they say it can occur 1-3 months after the season.
