Mine are all raw fed, I wean pups onto raw minced whole chicken. Nothing added they don't need a paste made up just ball a tiny amount in your fingers to the size of (Depending on breed, for my large breed a pea shape) what fits easily into thier mouths and pop a little in, they will mouth it and spit some out but offer it 3 times a day to begin, I start at 3 weeks or a little less, very quickly they will gobble it down then offer 2 balls but add something new, minced trip, beef, chicken, etc..etc.. within a couple of days they will take balls off a shallow dish and then you are away. Keep the variety going, (you can stop balling it up) I get minces of various mixes, beef, beef and tripe, Beef and offal, Chicken and liver, Lamb and heart, chicken, chicken and beef/lamb, game and tripe, chicken and oily fish etc.. By 4-5 weeks I add more chunky things like cubed beef or chicken wingtips, they have chicken neck (Watch them to start with and make sure they are chewing. My large breed puppies can cope with quite large chunks by 6 weeks. the minces I get have bone in them and so I don't worry about giving bones as such but I do throw a few larger lamb ribs in once they are older and supervise carefully. It teaches them to chew Once the others are gone and its just my pup left I start giving whole necks and making sure they learn to chew properly. I don't give milk once they start to eat solids. I also never worry about adding new protein they just get everything as they eat more. By 7 weeks mine will take any left over veg mashed into the meat, they will eat small hard biscuits and I do leave a bowl of a good quality kibble down for those hungry moments. Also in case new owners are not going to raw feed, I use something like Orijen and they never have it soaked they just get it once they have some proper teeth through and learn to crunch it up ! You can make life far to difficult if you try !!
