I think My toy bitch is 3 weeks and 3 days pregnant and she is driving me crazy wanting to be patted and in my face all day.  Is this normal behavior at 3 weeks no other signs other then her tits are a little bigger
- By JeanSW Date 02.01.17 02:05 UTC
Is your mentor/bitches breeder not helping you (you have the most difficult breed to whelp, so you are going to need help.)
- By susie_32 [ca] Date 02.01.17 02:20 UTC
We have an appt with the vet when she is 5 weeks for an ultra sound to see how things are then we will decide where to go from there .
- By JeanSW Date 02.01.17 02:45 UTC Upvotes 1
You are kidding me right?  A vet appointment?  First off vets don't breed, so they are not going to help.  They only get to see a bitch when it is an emergency section.

You are, I hope, going to recognise uterine inertia BEFORE her uterus bursts?

You should have been studying for 4 years before you considered breeding - and then, still have a breeder experienced IN THIS BREED.  Good job you don't live in this country.  You would be on the way to getting yourself prosecuted under The Animal Welfare Act.
- By susie_32 [ca] Date 02.01.17 03:01 UTC
Well I don't live in your country and I was asking a question if you don't have an answer to the question then don't give your oppionion I didn't ask for it.  Its rude people like you that make it difficult for people like me to ask question I'm not a child and i didn't need someone like you lecturing me.  If you can't say somethimg nice then don't say anything at all.

You would not contemplate having a baby with just a General practitioner doctors advice?

You would seek advice on birth from midwives and an obstetrician.

Most vets unless breeders themselves have no knowledge of whelping bitches or normal birth,  let alone breed specific knowledge of a tiny toy breed.

For example most will not know that it is usual for them to deliver around day 56, and waiting to day 63 could easily mean death of pups and/or bitch.

This is why it is vital to have the practical support and knowledge of an experienced breeder/mentor in your breed

Knowing your bitches mother's  line,  whether she and her female relatives had natural births etc is all vital knowledge ditto the styds female relatives breeding history.

Back to your original question,  the behaviour you describe is quite common,  but could also indicate discomfort.  There is always the risk of Pyometra to consider after every season,  mated or not.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 02.01.17 05:28 UTC
Oh JeanSW is an expert in your breed and naturally is worried by your apparent lack of knowledge regarding breeding before risking your bitch by doing so,  as breeding from this breed is fraught with more than the usual dangers and difficulties.
- By Bebe111 [gb] Date 03.01.17 11:32 UTC
Just wondering what kind of breed is this bitch? Maybe it's been stated but I cant find it anywhere.
- By Shihtzu12345 [gb] Date 03.01.17 11:58 UTC
I've noticed this it's probably hormones they want more attention. It's probably nothing to worry about.

If there is no unusual discharge or obvious hurting discomfort or discomfort/pressing suggesting trying to abort them, and she is eating some food and water she probably okay.

Hope this helps.. and you have  a successful litter of happy healthy puppies :)

BTW.. what breed is she? And is it her first litter?
- By CaroleC [gb] Date 03.01.17 18:12 UTC
I think the breed has been edited out. It was a very small one.
- By susie_32 [ca] Date 03.01.17 19:22 UTC Edited 04.01.17 08:46 UTC
The bread is a toy 6 lbs and my Vet is a breader and has given me some info but we were just waiting to see if she is indeed preg. Then we will go from there.  Going to do ultrasound  to confirm then just before delivery ex ray to make sure puppies are not to big
- By susie_32 [ca] Date 03.01.17 19:26 UTC Edited 04.01.17 08:48 UTC
She was alway very affectionate but latley she is in my face always wanting to be patted.  The only thing is she is not really showing. Tits are big but belly not so much thinking i would see a bigger belly at almost 4 weeks

> Just wondering what kind of breed is this bitch?

You should find the reason for breed being removed in terms and conditions.  It's fine mentioning breeds with general requests for information.  With breeding it is discouraged, as it is seen as advertising.  While that may seem unusual to you, it is surprising how many people try to sidestep the issue.  Instead, if wising to advertise, it should be done on the CD main site - and paid for.  Hope that helps.

>Can you name the breed?

No, because that would be advertising  The breed referred to is a toy breed.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 12.01.17 17:01 UTC Edited 07.02.17 10:43 UTC Upvotes 1
This site and forum has to be paid for, and that is done via the main site breeder advertising, so that means any sneaky advertising takes away revenue needed to support the running of the site.

For that reason posts that refer to upcoming or planned litters are not allowed to have the breed name, as a poster could just post in order to generate interest and side step paid advertising.

Any post or question or breed mention soon comes up on a Google search.  So such posts could easily spark puppy enquiries for the poster.

I am a long time poster (since about 2001) and when I travelled abroad to mate my bitch I was so excited and posted several post only to have posts deleted or edited, as I didn't realise in my naiveté that was the reason.  I thought it a bit mean until admin explained.

Thank you
For explaning this it does make sense
I have a question my sm dog is 6 lbs and is 55 days pregnent and last night and this morning diarrea with mucus also temp is 98.4 this morning and 97.6 to 98.4 this afternoon she is still eating and some what playful. Is 55 days excepable to have healthy pups
- By Brainless [gb] Date 31.01.17 20:24 UTC
It is quite common for some of the tiny breeds to only go about 56 days and those experienced would in fact worry fi they go much longer.

It really is very breed dependant.

The best person to advise you is your breed mentor and/or the breeder of your bitch.

I had a litter (similar size) where the bitch went into labour day 54 and gave birth day 55. Four perfectly healthy pups.

So update my Mya small bread is 60 days and no sign of having puppys yet do they always go to a welping bed just wondering as she has slept with me every since i brought her home and never slept alone also do they alway stop eating she constantly wants food.  Just getting a little excited and anxious
- By lleonder [gb] Date 09.02.17 17:34 UTC
My small breed sleeps on my bed and even though I had the whelping box on the floor at the end of my bed she was not happy and was never 100% settled in the first week or so.  I think if she had a small box on top of my bed she would have been happy :-)
She would jump up on my bed as soon as the pups went to sleep but couldn't lie at peace as was up and down checking on them and looked torn between wanting to be with them and me.  However my large breed girls are moved from their normal sleeping area and so fine so I guess they are all different and all you can do is wait and hope but I do think the more spoiled they are the more difficult they find the whole process.
As for eating I'd say 90% of bitches don't eat the day they go into labour but again there will always be ones who do and catch you off guard.
Good luck not long to go now

Thank you  for aswering today is 63 or 64 she only mated for 2 days  and still no signs sleeps on me constantly and will not stay in her bed ate half of her dinner and half of her breakfast but still looking for table food.  Took her yesterday for an xray 4 puppies in there he said puppy are at term and are a good size for her she should whelp in a day or 2. I sure hope so
All she wants to do is go under the covers and sleep
- By susie_32 [ca] Date 09.02.17 19:10 UTC
Update she just eat all of her lunch WOW
- By furriefriends Date 09.02.17 22:05 UTC
From what experienced breeders have said earlier on if she is 63 or even 64 days maybe you need to see the vet again as your breed often doesmt go this  long. Is your vet experienced in breeding toy breeds or is there someone who can help ? I would be a bit concerned knowing the people who have given earlier advise.
- By susie_32 [ca] Date 09.02.17 22:24 UTC
I just had her there yesterday for the xray and he said she was doing great and to expect puppies in a day or 2
- By susie_32 [ca] Date 12.02.17 16:47 UTC
This is crazy still no puppies and today is day 66 from the last tie.  She still eats like crazy and sleeps alot.  She looks healthy no problems puppies are stll active. Temp still 98 to 99.5. Going to the vet in the am to see if they can give her a shot to help lavour along.  Im so frustated want this to happen.

I think you need to go back and demand a c-section. Small breed bitches rarely go over 58/59 days and the pups are currently just sitting in there getting bigger - making it more and more difficult for your girl to whelp by herself. If your vet is a breeder - they should know this. REMEMBER you are paying for a service and if you want your girl to receive certain treatment - you have the right to demand it!

Please see the recent thread regarding a small breed litter and problems arising.
- By furriefriends Date 12.02.17 23:38 UTC
Totally agree .I don't breed but from what the experienced people have said I would be very worried
- By susie_32 [ca] Date 12.02.17 23:43 UTC
Her temp has droped to 97 and she starting to nest like crazy first time she will stay in her whelping bed hoping tonights the night if not i will be taking her into the vets tomorrow first thing.
