Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Questions about my bitch's first season - worried
- By Darcey Date 23.12.16 18:53 UTC
My seven-month-old Cavalier King Charles came into season on Thursday – that was the first day I noticed visible bleeding, though I had noticed she was urinating more often than usual a few days before.

I'm going to get her spayed three months after the season (on the advice of the breeder and my vet, who recommended letting her have one season first).

But I'm now really worrying because she went to doggy daycare on Wednesday, the day before she started bleeding. I spoke to the daycare woman and she said she had an entire male dog in that day as well.

I spoke to a nurse at the vets and she said that as there was no bleeding on the Wednesday, it's unlikely she could have been mated / receptive. Still can't help worrying and thinking 'what if...' though!

Do you think there's cause for concern that she was near an uncastrated male the day before visible bleeding started?

I don't think you have any need to worry.

If you want extra reassurance you could always have her scanned five weeks time.

To be honest a bitch would very rarely be ovulating in the first week of her season,  most usually it is toward the end of the second and into the third week.

Especially as this was her first season,  your worrying for nothing.

I wouldn't be worrying about this. If it's a good day care they will have a good number of staff to dog ratio and therefore  would be able to guarentee no mating took place. The chances of your girl being receptive on her first season before bleeding has started is almost zilch, won't say never but surely the daycare would have noticed if the male was unduly interested in her and split them up if that happened.

Surely they'd have noticed abnormal 'activity'/interest on the part of the entire male!!    And although some bitches do stand early, if she wasn't actually in on that day, and a puppy at that, I seriously doubt the male would have been able to do the job - much as I've seen a Jackie male mating!!!!   Wham, bang, thank you mam!

As said, if you are concerned, later on, get her scanned, and the spay brought forward!!

Thanks for the replies and reassurance, Brainless, suejaw and MamaBas. :-) I know I was probably just being paranoid. I did ring the daycare and she assured me that nothing happened, so I'll stop worrying now!
