I was just reading one of the post that says that tha cocker coat is different if the dog is spayed, why is this? I also have been researching cockers, in the beginning I had my heart set on a golden, but after reading about rage sydrome I am not so sure. Would I be better to get a black and white dog, my second choice? As I dont think I could handle a temperamental dog as it would be my first ever dog. Thanks

If you have been reading the various posts on Cockers, you will have seen that it's not what colour Cocker you look for, but what type of breeder you buy from :-) If you buy from an experienced, reputable breeder, you should not have any temperament problems with a Cocker puppy whatever the colour (provided you put the necessary effort into continuing training & socialising). Avoid at all costs adverts in the newspaper advertising a number of different popular breeds - go to a specialist Cocker breeder & be prepared to be patient (good breeders don't have litters all the time) Black & whites are not all that common these days so you may have to be extra patient if you want a pup of this colour :-) If you give us your rough location & a contact email address, then I'm sure we can suggest some reputable breeders for you to contact.

Neutering alters a Cocker's coat due to hormonal changes in the body once the spaying/castration takes effect - generally neutered Cockers grow thicker, woollier coats afterwards. Other breeds are also affected in this way, including the other Spaniel breeds, Setters, Golden Retrievers etc.
