I have just come across one of the most ridiculous reasons for rehoming a puppy, an advert for a 17 week old doodle and the reason for rehoming, the owner keeps tortoises and the puppy keeps picking them up!!!
It's so sad and makes me angry, I am tempted to reply to the ad and give the owner some advice but I imagine it will fall on cloth ears.

It's probably a case of any old excuse will do. I wouldn't be surprised if the person thought puppies came ready trained just like the one seen in a park once.
Sadly there are loads of dogs being shoved around like this, bought on a whim with no forethought
Poor puppy.
the owner keeps tortoises and the puppy keeps picking them up!!!Sheeeeeesh.....................don't waste your breathe mixedpack. It will go nowhere.

Guess the pups breeder isn't getting a return...........or it may actually be a puppy farmer or stolen pup (plenty of that going on) and someone is just making an excuse to try move it on, who knows?
Perhaps a check on any stolen doodles which look like it would be a better way to help.
Poor pup regardless.

yep agree more than likely and that they are tortoise trained. perhaps they have discovered tortoises are easier to look after as they don't need training !!

I thought there was a ban on imports/exports of Tortoises? So how did this family end up with a couple?
Too many people think puppies are cute Lil furry things to be played with and put away when they get bored.... puppies are real and grow quickly and are exhausting but so rewarding! I really cannot understand why people tell whopping fibs instead of "Sorry too hard work I was wrong I'm not ready for a dog.

Could be that they were bred here?

Yeah bred here.
Friend of mine down south has tortoises as pets but she rarely lets them incubate the eggs..beautiful creatures

Yeah they are still bred here, but you have to have a license. It's a very special privilege!

Cant believe one I saw today. 8 week old pup for sale due to it not getting along with the dog it was bought as a companion for. They bought the pup 3 days ago from breeder

Talk about not giving it a chance. They paid £600 and are asking £550, has to have come from byb for it not being returned to breeder. Poor little thing

My family still have my tortoise who was bought for 10/6 (52.5p) in the market she is well over 40 by now as we didn't know her age when we got her. so either way they could have an older tortoise or bred here, They are still easily obtained but should be home bred

The fact that the puppy returned to me was returned because it tried to kill grandma and eat the grand children says it all............
Strangely enough, I've never seen any ads with kids up for rehoming because they upset the puppy and I would love to rehome my mother in law if she ever decided to come and live with us.....no? Okay - slow piosionig with toilet bleach in her dinner it is then (joke)!

Possibly the breeder isn't aware? If breeder isn't I hope someone does let breeder know..
I have in the past messaged people who were giving up their, sometimes very young puppies, asking them to contact the breeders to give them a chance to have them back and rehome them. Perhaps not surprisingly I have had an avalanche of sometimes very vile replies roughly telling me to mind my own business, I have never been rude just trying to be helpful but I have stopped now!

Toilet bleach is cheaper!
Talking to my by then adult daughter once I said that I had always worried that my kids might have been allergic to dogs and I would have had to rehome the dogs. Her instant answer was 'I'd have rehomed the kids not the dogs'.

Sounds like you brought her up well

I think I'd agree with her!!

Dogs trust did a list once of some of the draft reasons people gave up their dog for, which included things like the dog didn't match the furniture, the dog didn't do any tricks, it smelt of dog ect
We seem to have very similar daughters. That would be the reaction mine would have.

I got a call from my vet some time ago to ask if I'd take an old boxer. Her owners brought her in to be PTS
because "she smelled".
We had her for a further 3 years and I think she smelled lovely, warm and biscuity.
