Topic Dog Boards / Health / Unpleasant odours due to urine

Hi,

My 6 year old male miniature schnauzer had to have a new hole made to urinate from in February but when he goes the urine runs down his leg which leaves him smelling really badly, any suggestions on what to do?

Thank you

Probably the most straight forward answer is to wash him. Wipe down with pet friendly wipes after wees?

I'd have to agree with this - I have known some Whippet males, who, because of their 'shape' would pee and hit the front legs.    You might talk to your vet about what's happening.   I have no idea about the need for a 'new hole'

Think its a medical condition even affecting human males to create a new hole! Think baby wipes be a good idea. Possibly check with vet as well in case a uti?

I've read on a Papillon Grooming group that wetting a brush, dipping into cornstarch and brushing through helps with urine.  I don't have the problem (touchwood

I keep losing half my post for some reason

It's like a dry shampoo without all the chemicals.  I don't know how/if it would work on your 'schnauzers coat but think the idea is to soak up the urine whereas wipes tend to dilute and spread.
