Hi I need someone's help as this is my first time breeding my bitch and dog mates as in tied! It's around the 6th week of pregnancy she's very large and her nipples are swollen she isn't producing milk but she's nesting my other half keeps saying she's fantasising but I'm not so sure she's not eating as much as she normally would and it's her first time I don't know what two expect but she's very clingy with me she's always thirsty can anyone give me some information? As its so stressful and worring

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking?

If you are asking whether your girl might be pregnant or not then the chances are that she is - especially if they tied. Have you had her checked by your vet? You cannot name the breed but could you give details as to size, age, type (toy, pastoral etc)?

You will need to buy The Book of The Bitch and read it pretty quickly. It will tell you what you need and what you should be doing. You will also need to start worming your bitch from 40 days in to pregnancy, every day until she whelps.

She should be hungry and wanting to eat at this stage but if she isn't and is drinking a lot, she may have some internal infection going on. You need to get her to the vet and follow their advice.

Telling you that you should have read up on all of this before allowing your dogs to mate would be pointless now. Also telling you that if this was an unplanned mating, then taking her to the vet and having an injection to stop an unwanted pregnancy would be pointless now too. But that's what you should have done. If however, this is still an unwanted pregnancy, you could take her to the vet and have her spayed now and stop it from progressing any further.

Having had a litter 2 days ago and having spent swell over £1000 so far on pregnancy supplies, vet bills, stud fees and travel so far, I hope you are prepared financially for this litter. People here love their dogs and are happy to advise as long as you are willing to listen, don't take any criticism personally and can be as honest about the situation as possible. Good luck.

Pregnancy in dogs is approx 9 weeks so you wouldn't see any milk at this stage (when was the date she was mated?). Have you had her scanned to confirm the pregnancy?

Hi Thankyou for getting back to me I completely understand what your saying this was a planned pregnancy and iam fully preperd iam thankful for whatever advice you can give me I have had her to the vets and they have told me that she is pregnant with 4 pups that they can see I made sure I was financially ready for this and she has everything waiting that she could possibly need she is loved dearly and I have been worried out of my mind she is a jack russel cross terroir she is medium sized. Iv looked up a lot about her breed and also breeding books I was just hoping someone could reasure me as I wasn't sure if she was pregnant or not until she was taken to the vets she's due in 2 weeks but ther is no milk yet I was assuming this wouldn't happen until the puppy's are Bourne she was put back with a small jack russel stud. She is 2 and a half years old am open two your advice Thankyou

You are very unlikely to see any milk until the pups are here. Right now you need to stop stressing and try to calm down. Any stressing by you will be picked up by your girl and she WILL stress too.

If you haven't already got it, get The Book of The Bitch. It will tell you everything you need to know and also the stages of labour and birth. Everyone here swears by it. You can get it from Amazon at a reasonable price.

If you have questions or are unsure, just ask. No one will just type random posts but they will reply if you ask a question.

Hope that helps.
