Has anyone ever used any kind of spray or tablet on a bitch in season that discourages intense interest from entire males?!  I am sure I already know the answer is no, but it is worth a shot.  My husband's border collie bitch is currently in season and every six months we go through the angst of his male collies and my entire male GSD going off their food, trying to gain access to her through any means necessary, going off work and food etc.  The worst culprit is my entire WL GSD male.  He scales a six foot fence, opens doors, barks, howls and generally makes life difficult for himself and me!  The rest of the time a nicer, more well adjusted and balanced GSD you could not find, but he turns into a real pain in the ass when she comes into season.

I'd like to see anything like that work with a Basset nose!!    And once the dog realises the bitch is coming into season even, he will be switched on, and waiting.   With my more experienced males, the first week would produce a minor interest (not that I didn't move them to another part of the house from the very start) which would gradually intensify through the second and third weeks, until once given a good bath and reintroduced to the pack, the object of their desire would let them know it was all too late chaps.  Which was far more effective than anything I'd tell them.   Immediate switch off.

Which is why once retired, ALL our bitches were spayed.

I tried tablet and spray with no benefit at all, I sent my bitch to live with a family member when she was in season, my dog is stupidly bonded to me and won't eat if he is away, but I had to send her the minute I noticed her come in otherwise he would start singing. My advice would be to spay her if you are not going to breed or board her out if you want to keep her entire

The only thing which I've found that works aside from castration is the suprelorin implant, can get 6 or 12 months. Worked a treat this end

I did consider the Suprelorin implant - and am now wishing I had gone ahead.  However, he is due to be used at stud next spring/summer and I wasn't sure whether it might affect his performance (and there was also the possibility that the bitch owner might require semen to be taken and frozen while we had a bitch on heat, but that has now been discounted).  I also considered kennelling the bitch away from home and that is a definite possibility for next season.  I think given the small chance of a spray working I will save my money.  Thanks all.
