Topic Dog Boards / Health / Peridale granules

I'm wondering whether anybody out there has used Peridale granules, and if so, with what success.   I've been having problems with my hound who, since a routine dental, hasn't producing a firm normal stool.   This started with a couple of days of occasionally vomiting back only partly digested food and moving on to increasingly bad diarrhoea to the point that one evening he was needing out every hour and producing watery nothing, with a tiny bit of light blood.   He was given various 'treatment' including my ordering in some Hills I/D at one point.    He is significantly better now, but is still doing a normal well-bulked stool first thing, but which deteriorates by the end of the day, or even the latter end of an individual BM.    Like this morning - first out, fine, ending with mucosy 'stuff'.    I've had a fecal done in case the Giardia he had as a 4 month puppy when he first came to us (he's over 6 years now) had flared, especially as he was doing this previously even after we had a number of negative fecals.   The test came back showing absolutely NOTHING - from normal worms to protozoa, salmonella etc.   All clear.

Thinking on this, I dug into my 'dog cupboard' and found some Peridale granules I'd had for another hound (now out of date by 3 years and which I'll not be using!!).   This has set me to wondering whether to order some more rather than go down the road my vet wants, putting him on a 'pre-digested' diet, then complete bloods, and then a stomach scan, each should the previous treatment not work.   I've already spent A LOT on him since the dental a few weeks ago which could have been the cause of all this - he was taken in at 9 am, but wasn't worked on until around 4 pm, not being discharged until close on 7 pm.   He's a sensitive hound and it could have knocked him for 6 being in there for that length of time, alone.

Information re experience with Peridale granules would be appreciated.

I used the granules donkey's years ago.  It is hard to remember so far back but I think they helped my boy.  I guess they are still comparatively cheap so I'd say, give it a go, if only for a few days or a week.  Good luck.
