One of my girls eyes has suddenly greyed right over and I thought it was old age setting in - she is coming up 12.
I am now not so sure because I have seen from searching on the internet there could be various reasons.
A grooming customer of mine tells me she had this with her  do. It was sudden and they gave him drops at which point, the, and I am quoting her,
the lens dropped forward. H e was in terrible pain and the only outcome suggested was to remove the eyes.
Has anyone experienced as I don't want to make the wrong decision as she can still see a bit and does not appear to be in any pain.

I would not be asking questions on a forum with an eye problem like this.
A visit to the vet as soon as possible would be advised !

I too think you should be asking your vet about this, although it would seem you have.    I don't mess with eyes so if he thinks removal is the best option, have it done.   Dogs cope without full sight well - smell being the first sense and there's no doubt, removal is way preferable to pain!   We had one who had a cloudy eye when it first opened.   My vet put her on drops, but in a very short time, it 'blew'  into a nasty mess and had to come out at which point an abscess was discovered at the back of the eye.   Rare I'd suggest!    We kept her and other than having a dry nose which kept needing to be cleaned up, she had no problem functioning perfectly with just the one eye.   Much as she'd never really had the benefit of two.  I had another who, in old age, had cataracts on both eyes.   Because of her great age, no surgery was done and much as I had to keep a close watch on her (she wasn't hearing as well either), she coped just fine.   You'd have to discuss whether your older girl could cope with the general anaesthetic she will need, of course.

She needs to be seen by a vets before you consider putting anything into her eyes, that could make it worse. I don't mess with eyes.

one of my previous dogs eyes went cloudy and grey looking. She was old, suffering from DCM, had kidney failure and I knew her time was up. When I took her into the vets to be PTS I asked the vet about her eye and he said it looked as if it was blood and was probably due to a small blood vessel bursting as her blood pressure was high.
Just wondering if it's possible that a small blood vessel has ruptured in your dogs eye.

Thought I would come back and let you know how we got on at vets.
My vet said there was no lens luxation and there was a chance of improvement.
We have steroid drops called maxidex which I was surprised were for humans but now I have researched I see this is quite a common prescription.
He said she may have had a little discomfort and the drops would also help to soothe.
Now we have to wait and see but it would be about 10 days before we would know any improvment. I will report back at a later date.

Well after starting the drops within a couple of days she is a different dog. Joining in with the others and happier.
The eyes are not completely normal but nothing like as grey. Still might improve - such a relief.
