i feed him before his morning walk and then again before his evening walk, im permently cleaning his room to get the smell out but he is still doing it!!!

he has recently been castrated and is still the same.... he is very attached to me and hates beeing left alone is this relavent?????

I had the same problem with my Jack Russell.
The situation was that before me and my boyfriend lived together, he used to sleep in his bed. Now we live together I don't allow this but let him sleep in the bedroom with us.
He started doing his business in the nigh so I took him to the vet.
The vet told us that he was probably being vindictive! I don't know if your bassets previous owners let him sleep in the bed with them, but this may be your problem.
The vet advised us to have our dog castrated, but what we do now is give him loads of fuss and strokes before bedtime and it has seemed to work!
Hope this helps.
