I feed Burns Alert, Lamb and Brown Rice to my two Labs. They have been on the Burns food for years now and I'm really happy with it, it really suits them and they are both very healthy. However just lately, say the last month, my 8 yr old girls poops have become very light in colour and slightly softer than usual. I haven't noticed any other changes in her and she is well in herself.

I was starting to wonder if I should change her over to a Senior Diet? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I had my last two Goldens on Burns chicken and rice until they died both aged between 14 and 14.5 years. I asked my vet if they should change to a senior diet, but he was happy for them to remain on Burns even when one of them went into heart failure, she still, lived another three years after that diagnosis.
I wouldn't have thought that a change in bowel habit indicated a need to change to a senior diet.

Hi Tazzy,
Myself and the other Burns nutritionists would love to help your dogs.
Please do contact our helpline (email and free phone number on your bag of food) as I'm sure the diet just needs a little fine-tuning so that it suits them again. The Alert Lamb & Brown Rice is slightly higher in minerals than our other foods which can be a problem to some senior dogs if they are prone to certain health issues e.g. urinary stones/crystals. However, healthy dogs can remain on this when they are older if it is suiting them. The digestive issue however, suggests we need to tweak the diet a bit.
Best Wishes
Fiona.

Burns do respond to their help line.  I've been onto them, in the past, to good effect, even if I don't use Burns now - sorry Burnspet.

I don't subscribe to a Senior diet however - haven't really had to.  If I needed to watch weight for eg, I just cut back, and if there was a dental issue causing an eating prob. then it was off to the vet.   I too wouldn't have expected a different coloured stool indicated a need for a 'senior' food.
