I know that folks will be getting ready for Birmingham this weekend .I also know that there is a particularly nasty kennel cough doing the rounds. I just want to ask people to stop and think before they take any dog that may have been in contact with any infectious diseases. You will have signed the declaration on the form saying you have not been in contact with any infectious or contagious diseases for 21 days. For some reason every one seems to think that this only applies to other people and not to themselves. We have had morons bringing dogs to ringcraft even though they are clearly coughing. Please consider the oldies back at home and seriously think about whether you should in fact be attending any shows if you have pups .So you lose a bit of money if you don't go to the show - some people may just stand to lose a whole lot more because of you.
Haven't entered LKA for years now because of this reason. Had 2 years in a row where we brought kennel cough home and it took our elderly elkhound weeks to recover. As you say it's just not worth the risk, there's always another show.
It's the recycled air that's the issue, unfortunately dogs can be infectious before showing symptoms, so it isn't just inconsiderate/ignorant owners, but since they now use the other halls I haven't heard much about post LKA Kennel cough?
