Topic Dog Boards / General / Severe weather and flooding in North West UK

Been thinking a lot about how the extreme weather has been affecting dog owners and breeders in the North West. It's been bad enough down here, with pretty constant rain/mud everywhere for weeks,  but unimaginably distressing to those in the severely affected areas.

I always go to the animals in situations like this - I saw one dog and a load of small animals being rescued on a boat, and the overhead photos of the sheep I imagine all have seen too.    My heart bleeds for all people up there - I know the area in Keswick pictured well - we had many family holidays on a farm just outside Keswick off the Penrith Road.   Trouble is raising the wall alongside the R.Greta would obstruct the normally lovely views - I wonder if they'll have to have panels that can be erected, like along the Severn, in future.   And the glass/perspex panels if higher, should work.    Life in Carlisle must be shocking right now - wet and no means to heat (electricity out).   Ghastly.   Mother Nature can't be ignored, whatever IS is up to!!

It's been rain and rain and more rain here in the SW - and the last grass cut hasn't been done.   Oh well, longer grass means less liklihood of a mud patch by the end of Winter I guess.

It was also Northumberland as Corbridge and Hawick are in Northumberland, I live in north east and it was bad enough with the wind and the rain, over the river Tyne three old bridges over 250 years have gone one in minutes due to the amount of water in the river.  Near where I live two rivers are a hundred foot apart both where over their banks and nearly becoming one Browney and the Wear

I was amazed to see water coming over Malham Cove, making a beautiful waterfall, not been seen before in living memory. The Cove was originally formed by water cascading over the top, but many thousands of years ago, it stopped and filtered through the limestone and reappears at the bottom of the cove forming a little river. I used to live not far away and often visited and walked in the area, to see pictures ofthis magnificent waterfall, which didn't last very long, has been an incredible sight.

I think you'll find Hawick is in Roxburghshire, Scottish Borders, close to Northumberland but on the other side of the Border. My hame toon and it was a bit of a mess on Saturday.
