Hi
I have an ESS who suffers with seizures, he hadn't had one for 18 months and 2 weeks ago I used Stronghold on him for the first time......yesterday he had 3 fits, 1 in the morning when he was running with my other dogs, he was just coming round and went into another violent one and then last night he was woken from sleeping with another which is new to us as his trigger is excitement, this time  I used rectal Valium on him for the 1st time. I'm thinking these seizures could have something to do with the Stronghold, thoughts please.
He isn't on any meds

Did you check with your Vet that stronghold was ok to use with a dog that has epilepsy? I know my own vet was very thorough before recommending which treatment to use on my own dogs and spent some time checking and double checking to make sure we got it right. In the end, I did not use anything on the dog that had seizures but needed to check what was safe to use on the other dogs, that he came into close contact with. Frontline was definitely out but I am not sure about Stronghold. Hope your dog is ok. It is a terrible condition.

They could.be.i Personaly wouldn't use any chemicals on a dog who has an kind of illness even if the vet says it's ok  .  Fits have been seen in dogs having been given chemical flea.and worm treatments . I hope.thinhs improve for him shortly

Stupidly no I didn't check with the vet, really thought he was over his seizures after 18 month break. I won't be using anything on him again.
Thank you both.

Just to add: 'Advantage' was the treatment that was recommended as safe. I never used it on my dog that had seizures but it was used on my other dogs (only once, and they were kept away from him for 24 hours after treatment) and cat (whom caused the flea problem in the first place!). After the flea problem had been sorted out, I only ever used it on my cat and never had another flea problem since that day.

Has the cluster stopped now Dolph?

:lol:Hi, yes he's back to normal thanks  I spoke to our vet today and he said not to use Stronghold or Advocate as there's the same chemical in them. Must say I don't usually use any flea treatments but the weathers been so warm so we have had a problem this year.

Glad he is ok again now. Fingers crossed it won't happen again for a while now

One of my dogs has epilepsy and when i gave him raw chicken mince as recommended by the raw meat supplier, I was told to give it to him for a week as we are new to raw feeding. He had it every day for five days and on the 5th day he had five epileptic fits where normally he only gets them every few weeks. I spoke to my vet and he said dogs with epilepsy must have low protein in their diet, and chicken is high in protein so obviously i stopped feeding him chicken. So if you give your dog a lot of chicken in his food or in treats this might be one of the reasons he had a fit.
