Hi quick question regarding a bitch standing and allowing mating, having done some reading some seem to allow the bitch to mate for as long as she will stand, my problem is what if the bitch keeps on standing, my girls been flagging and allowing mating for a week now, I haven't done blood tests as I rely on my girl to let me know however getting a bit concerned as she has been mated now 4 times over 8 days and still more than happy to continue. Is she just been a floosy and should the male now be sent home or do we keep trying her every 48 hours? I'm starting to think they are both just having us on

No body can know as behaviour and physiological status can have very little correlation. Some bitches are strumpits and will stand throughout a season so unless you test and know if she has ovulated you have no idea if she has been mated in fertile period and thus no further matings needed or if she hasn't get ovulated in which case you need to keep mating her

So it's best to keep trying her until she stops standing?

Some will allow them to mate as long as the female will stand, however you will need to keep in mind when you have a long time range of markings it will mean you will also have that time for her due date. So as currently your girl has mated over 8 days her due date could be  with in a 13 day range, as she may have ovulated in time for the eggs to be ready for fertilisation on the first maiting or she may have ovulated in time for the eggs to be ready a couple of days after the last maiting. So a bigger window than if she mated once or twice over less days.
A good scanner can give you an idea of how far along she is if you have her scanned during her pregnancy. Or if your worried you could have her progesterone tested now to see if she has ovulated yet.

In this case would allow to mate as often as receptive but as Jo says you have wide variable on due date

A few years back one of my bitches started standing day 10. By day 14 was going crazy for my male so took her to my chosen stud day 14 and 16 with 2 good matings. Day 22 she was still standing so I decided to do bloods. Result came back next day she had ovulated that day......I was lucky the stud owner was happy for me to take her back day 25. She went on to have a litter. I do agree that the problem with numerous matings is you do not know when you bitch is due.

My experience with bitches is that they may well be floozy's before ripe, but they won't stand at all once they have gone over.

Most bitches will stop standing once they have gone over, and a week is not unusual for a strumpet (usually bitches that have been mated before) as some will stand from the LH surge (two days before ovulation) and continue until the eggs die off (about 5 - 6 days after ovulation).

I was content with a couple of good matings (not necessarily with a tie), done 2 days apart.   Otherwise it makes knowing the due date even harder than it is, given conception doesn't always take place immediately.   I'd certainly not keep at it over a week.   There's no need.   In my breed, experienced males 'lose interest', appearing to know they have done their job.   Perhaps the bitch already smells different if she has conceived?
