My had a c section on the 23rd of October this year had four pupus which where large
Though great . She had been fine then on the 28th Wednesday she had a red jelly coming out of her rang the vet who said does it look like old blood I said it's like jelly though I had better ring .  they said don't worry
Tonight 29th she gave birth to another pupu dead of course 6 days after the four where born by c section
Any sergestions on what I should do when I go to the vet and tell them what has happened

Get to vets for antibiotics now if not already on them and I would be giving them hell if she was mine.

C.Section and they left one in there   Obviously your poor bitch will need antibiotics and you are VERY lucky she's not very ill right now.   Personally much as these vets need to be told, there's no way I'd set foot across their doorstep ever again.

I don't do sue, but in this case SUE THE B**tards.   You might like to take this further, if in the UK contact the BVA or RCVS who have a complaints department.   This is disgusting and puts me in mind of my tragedy, years ago now, when I took my bitch in for a Section which wasn't done until the morning by the locum.  My regular vet was on holiday and the admitting vet the Senior Partner who I discovered afterwards 'didn't do surgery'.   Result - 9 puppies 4 doa, 1 died shortly after coming home, with milk coming through his nose from the staff trying to bottle them.  The four survivors included one who became Top Puppy in her breed that following year, with 1 CC before being exported (behind my back).   A sister we kept took one RCC but hated the ring so I let her be a stay at home girl.   Both boys took their Stud Book quali.  These were the survivors.  Heaven knows what the other 5 might have been.   We did sue but how do you quantify what might have been, or the fact we dare not risk another litter (which I don't do after a Section in any case).  Some vets need stringing up.

How the hell can you do a C section on a dog and completely miss a puppy? It's bizarre.

Vets do not have sufficient training in anything to do with breeding or reproduction.... :(  We need to have a list of vets we recommend to each other and know are reliable and good when it comes to breeding related issues.

Little to say regarding this but
I would be really inclined to go to another vet and explain the situation of what has happened. I'd probably want the dog on a course of antibiotics and an ultrasound to be performed to check for any lingering fluid/ infection.
That is truly shocking and definitely requires an inquiry as to what went wrong. How on earth can a puppy be missed during a section?

Awful situation!  I also know of a case like this which happened to a friend over a year ago, a long story resulting in only 1 live pup and an ill bitch where there had been a good size litter. My own bitch had a section on the same day out of hours but thankfully our vet does their own out of hours unlike our friend's vet.  Really brought it home to me just how lucky I am to have a vet whom I trust implicitly and who listens to my opinion.

This is not the first time I have heard of this happening (a pup left in after C section) a friends bitch whelped a live pup after a C section, and someone on here a while back had a terrible time with dead pups following a section.

I had a bitch proclaimed empty after a normal whelping. whelp a large dead pup a day and a half later and she was put on antibiotics.

Shocking!! Full apology from vet, no payment for any further treatment needed, and whoever did the C section needs stringing up and then retraining stat!! Your bitch could have died with a decomposing dead puppy stuck inside her for 6 days. That's just disgusting!!

I could hardly believe that a vet could be so incompetent when the flipping bitch is open on the table in front of them! I had no idea that it happens so often. If I were to find myself in such a position I would definitely consult a different vet, but I would also make Damn sure that the receptionist, and everyone else in the waiting room knew exactly what had happened and where.

Jayne Stark says: Take the dead pup to the vet. Tell him/her what has happened. The very least they can do is not charge you for the C-Section and anaesthetic. . If it were me, I would write everything down as it has happened. I am sure the vet is going to be feel awful about it too
