Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / newbie question

Please pardon my newbie question here, but I am a little confused.  I'm sure that it is written somewhere that we are not to reveal our breed, but I guess I missed that instruction.  I unwittingly did that the first time I posted and noticed afterwards that my post had been edited and the name of my breed removed.  That's perfectly OK, I certainly don't mind.  But there are other posts or user names in which the breed is named quite clearly.  I am also trying to figure out why it would be negative to reveal our breeds.  With most users, I'd find it fascinating and most helpful to know what they breed!  Is the purpose of this policy perhaps to avoid users advertising their litters or something like that?

This is in no way a criticism or argument.  I find this the best forum I have ever encountered and am very grateful to be a member.  Since I do not live in the UK, it is wonderful to be in touch with breeders from this venerable land of dogs!

Your breed was removed as it was in a thread involving a litter & this could be seen as advertising.
If it is nothing to do with a litter the breed can be mentioned, most are very careful & put things like small, medium, large or maybe which group they belong to. This way we are more aware for the advice we give.

Thank you!  As they say here where I live:  Alles klar!

In actual fact I find that sometimes I get a PM asking me about advice in whelping my breed.  It's all to do with where the experience lies.  (I would be far better advising you how to whelp a toy breed.)

I have a toy breed, so go right ahead and advise me!  Today is day 59 from the first mating (which was on day 10 of the cycle, so I doubt it was 2 days after ovulation, but anyhow...)!  One question though:  what is a PM?  "Phorum Member"? :wink::wink:

I get more information when the breed is named.   But I guess sometimes this could be seen as advertising.
