I have a bulldog  puppy who is 2 days old.  She has had to go on to royal canine milk today ( vets advice)  but she is pooing as she is feeding.  I thought they could only do it when stimulated?  Im worried about spine issues?   Thank you

I've no experience with this replacer milk - I've always laid in something like Esbilac or Whelpie, or even goats milk.  Can I ask why she's not able to feed from mum because not only should she be having mum's first milk, for the natural immunity she'll need, but this is obviously way better for her immature digestive system.   I have had a litter which mum would have nothing to do with (pooh - pee fine but the other was way beneath her dignity) and which eventually gravity prevailed and they did eliminate without being stimulated, but they certainly didn't take their milk in one end, and eliminate the other end at the same time.   I'd suggest this milk may not be suiting this puppy.

Mum got abit of colostrum then dried up. My vet seems to think it's cause she's the only one.

To be honest, as many vets only know the theory with breeding, you'd do far better to either talk to whoever bred your b itch originally, or somebody else who has actual hands-on experience.   There's no reason why mum should have dried up after only 2 days, even if she only has one puppy to feed - we had a singleton pup and rather than drying up, she was actually producing too much milk and risking going to mastitis.   I had to make sure I was rotating the puppy all the time so her teats were being drained.   And because she wasn't needing to feed a normal sized litter, she hardly ate any food, which had me panicking until I realised nature knew best.

If this was my situation, I'd keep trying to put this puppy on mum.
