Hi guys, my girl was mated 10 days ago. Yesterday morning I noticed a yellow/green discharge on her bedding. Just small spots about 10 in total. I called the emergency vet who said possible infection but there's nothing they can give her as possibly pregnant and antibiotics would kill any possible puppies and I should monitor her. The discharge has continued today. The vet has called and said to bring her in tomorrow to be checked and that they can give antibiotics but it could affect the puppies (if there are any). She is totally fine in herself in every way Eating, drinking and just being her normal self. Has anyone had anything similar at this early stage? Have you given antibiotics at this stage??

Yes,I have had this on most of my bitches at the end of their season mated or not. Always had a healthy litter in all 12 litters I have bred and never used antibiotics for it. Really, don't worry so long as it doesn't start to smell or go darker..... Yellow/ green sounds like after season vaginitis. It will probably clear in a few days and turn to a more opaque/ cream colour.

I would not take her in to the vets, you really could do mor harm stressing her at this important time and the chances are she is having a normal post season clear out. I have seen it so many time.

That seems very strange, as the commonly prescribed antibiotics like Synulox and Noroclav are safe in pregnancy. Last time I had a litter (5 months ago) my bitch was off colour 3 days after mating and I took her to the vet and asked if we could have a course of antibiotics to play safe. She was given Noroclav for a week so that took her up to 11 days of pregnancy. We had a litter of 13, one pup was stillborn but most likely had only recently died, the other 12 were all fine.

I've been speaking with the emergency vet who to be honest I think was a trainee. The practice advertise as reproductive specialists and the lady I've spoken with over the weekend really is nothing of the sort. Thankfully the discharge seems to have stopped and she still seems totally fine in herself. Clearly I need a new vet. Thanks for your help guys. This website is brilliant

Another one here who doesn't worry if antibiotics are prescribed.  Lots of pregnant bitches do just fine on Noroclav.

Mine have had Synlolux and had a perfectly normal litter.
I admit I was worried the 1st time but would not be so concerned now.

Same here, as long as you tell the vet she may be in whelp, there's a few options. Had my older girl with vaginitis twice in her puppy rearing days, and her daughter has just been scanned in whelp after vaginitis and antibiotics. Glad your girl seems to be clearing it up anyway.
