Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / multi vitamin ? vit d?

I keep birds as well as my beloved dog and all my indoor birds and indeed myself are on a multi vitamin suppliment/vit d supliment as in uk being indoors majority of time its not possible to get enough vitamin d for my birds at any rate.and since starting a vit d suppliment myself I have seen my own skin problem nearly clear up.  now thats got me thinking- my dog is an indoor dog- obviously she is walked but thats not that long and we don't get much sun here. I hate to think she could be vit d deficient... what do people recommend if anything as a multivitamin suppliment or vit d suppliment for a 28kg none working , spayed bitch. she is 7 years old. weimaraner. more or less healthy.

Hello I'm new, waves paw, but you lot on the forum are my bed time reading! So tonight I'm taking the plunge.
Every year at the same time ie dark mornings and evenings my dobie would loose hair. Friend of mine joked that he Had SAD. The years I supplemented him with vit D this no longer happened, so yes in my opinion they must lack it too.

I would hesitate at adding a supplement as all reputable dog foods (as opposed to cheap muck) should contain a healthy balanced diet for canines.  Next time you are at your vets have a chat about this first.  IMHO

Just 10mg daily was enough to make a difference, this should not have affected calcium or kidneys but yeah always check with your vet if you are unsure.

The link below is to a recent Cornell uni study on it, might be helpfull, although there are weaknesses in it so it's not robust, even so, it does highlight there are risk factors involved. Has your vet approved or commented on what your giving at the moment?

You really need some comments from your vet as well because of potential risks.
