Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Barking at the slightest sound

Hi. I am on holiday with my dog. We are staying in a small cottage which is surrounded by a complex of cottages. Trouble is she is very unsettled at being in a different environment. She is barking at the slightest noise and at everything and everyone that goes past our cottage. She is 19 months old and I tell her quiet and put my finger to my mouth. Any help from you all would be appreciated.

Try to mask the strange outside noises and sights by keeping her away from windows and having a Radio or TV on fairly loud

No ideas, I'm afraid but I feel your pain!

I took the dogs for a night's camping last week - our first time - and luckily the site owners put us in a corner of a field, as I was sure one of mine would be gobby. He lived up to expectations and started barking the moment it got dark. Envisaging axe murders and the like I went to look, to find.... a hedgehog. Without an axe.

I didn't sleep well and could see he was awake most of the night on guard, then at dawn off he started again, telling me & the rest of the world there were cattle in the field behind us.

Thanks for your replies --- as I write this she is still barking! Luckily the cottage has thick granite walls so I don't think she can be heard outside... No one has complained yet! To cap it all .. A pair of old folks are renting the adjoining cottage  and low and behold they are only parading 2 cats on leads around the grounds! I give up!!!!:cry:

have you tried keeping the curtains/blinds closed?
that's what I do as well as having the tv on when we take mine on holliday so she cant see the people walking past.
