Well we decided in April to answer a College request for Host Families for International Students. We filled in forms, home visit etc and passed. We have been advised twice we may have student and then heard nothing back for 6 weeks. Well yesterday we were called and advised we have a student and will be a late arrival from Hong Kong. We thought ok gives us a week or two, wrong!
Phone call wednesday you have a student they will email you. An email two hours later to arrive with parents on Monday!
I have only dealt with boys, my son's, nephews and not had much to do with girls! Any tips be great or if anyone hosted a student advice please.

I've hosted students over the years and am a EFL (English As A Foreign Language) teacher. It can be a fantastic experience but don't expect to make any money. Well, we never did but it was fun all the same., mostly. The best students were out all day with school and activities and all we had to do was provide a nice clean room and breakfast and evening meal ( with the family).
We always included the student/s in family outings and were rewarded with good companions for kids and dogs. But...we  also had students who never went out, those who brought home dubious companions, those who made free with our telephone and those ..who were just a pain in the b.m. Most arrive with lovely prezzies -Russian chocs are to be treated with caution ! I'm useless at setting clear boundaries -I'm far too eager to please- but you really should be clear about use of landline/internet -if you have restricted capacity and guests. Not all nationalities are used to pets in the home. We had students who thought dogs should be chained up outside. This we treated as an educational opportunity ,with some measure of success.

So far all seems ok. A really good English understanding and vocabulary. Amazed at such a young age to travel so far to be educated in a different time zone,culture and language. College a bit laps a daisy re communicationso we set up our own host family network. Met three other host families Saturday. Just need try and get some outside socialisation with new friends uk and other  international students.
Already having to look at flights during that C time as getting booked for festive visits home
