Our bitch is now 65 days from first mating and 66 days from ovulation (determined by a swab)
I have been monitoring her temperature and it dropped to 36.9 yesterday at 9am and has been 37.1 since.
She had a bit of stringy discharge yesterday but nothing since, she is deep breathing but no real nesting and is just a bit uncomfortable as you would expect.
Her temp this morning was lower at 36.8 and she has now refused breakfast (was still eating yesterday) Just taken temperature again and is now 36.5
Spoken to my vet and we decided to give it until mid afternoon and then she will have to have a section.
Any advice grateful received :)

I have found some of our bitches drop to the mid 36's for several days before whelping at certain times of the day then bounces back up the 37's.
Once they drop lower, nearer 36 it has been between 6 and 12 hours later.

As she has refused breakfast I would say she is getting close.....if she were mine I would not be rushing for a section if she has not been showing signs of distress but I don't know your breed.....it does sound very normal progress to me though and I would personally let her progress naturally if there are no signs of contractions, straining or shaking. Has she had a bowel movement today? Mine are nearly always loose before whelping and usually sick several times.

Thanks very much, I think I will give her another 24 hours now her temp has gone so much lower and she is refusing food - just hope those pups aren't too big!!

Are puppies still active ? If so would be happy to watch and wait.
I had a bitch with inertia who showed no distress, temp was down, restless and ustettled as in very early stages of stage I labour just never progressed. Monitored closely for about 6 hrs and finally ran some progesterone bloods which verified she should be in active labour ( progesterone lower than 2ng ) so we did a section. All 11 pups were ok but but first pup was a bit flat and due to poor contractions was mal presented and would never have been delivered naturally.

Hope your girl progresses normally, if in doubt the in house progesterone pre mate kits will give an idea of where you are physiologically and if you should intervene

My bitch took about 30 hours to start delivering from temperature drop...personally I would give her more time but then I don't particularly trust ovulation swabs or vets opinions, for that matter. I'd be looking for signs of distress, green/black discharge before rushing into a section.

Yes pups still active. Good idea about the pre-mate progesterone kits but could do with them now!

Temp rising a little now to 36.7 so perhaps we are getting closer

I think this is very much breed dependent.  I certainly wouldn't leave my breed for 30 hours.   I know the OP can't say what breed, but perhaps give us an idea of size.

So right Jean!
I've bred dogs for nearly 40 years and never had a case of primary inertia.

In boxers this would constitute a normal pregnancy.

I know tooolz.  It is oh so common in my breed, and I guess if I'm honest, not enough people take it seriously.  Especially the ones who tell people, oh you have to have sections with Chi's.  GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

I have worked so very hard to have a line of normal whelpers.  Why?  Because I take my responsibility to the breed very seriously.  You've not had problems with primary inertia, and I wish I had never seen it.    It's why I have a houseful of spayed bitches, with spayed daughters!!!

I have a very small stud of normal whelping bitches because it took literally years due to the size of the litters.
