Cats vs dogs: Scientists confirm that felines are better... from an evolutionary perspective

'The dog family – which includes the wolves from which today’s domesticated dogs are descended – originated in North America about 40 million years ago and reached a maximum diversity around 20 million years later, when there were more than 30 species on the continent. At that point, the cat family arrived from Asia.

“The arrival of cats to North America had a deadly impact on the diversity of the dog family. We usually expect changes in climate to play the overwhelming role in the evolution of species. Instead, competition among different carnivore species proved to be even more important for the dogs,” said the report’s lead author, Dr Daniele Silvestro, of the University of Lausanne in Switzerland.'

"dogs ...originated in North America about 40 million years ago and reached a maximum diversity around 20 million years later, when there were more than 30 species on the continent. At that point, the cat family arrived from Asia" - So basically cat family arrived to the North America 20 millions years ago. And so while cats had been around for 20 millions years, having arrived from the Asia, it is only at that time that Christopher Columbus discovered the continent from the European side (500 years ago)... If that is so - cats are definitely more evolutionary perspective :)

cats are definitely more evolutionary perspective

Probably, but the degree of lack of definition on what is named as 'dogs' is enormous, so, the modern domestic caninine is unlikeley to anything at all like its' original ancestors, one common characteristic of any domestic canine that we know today is that it is a man made synthetic species in some way designed to benefit man in some way and lacks to any significant degree the evolutionary genes neccessary for the canine to survive in the man made synthetic forms we see around.
Something might survive as a wild evolved animal species and to be such would have enough universal common chartistics for it to be readily identified on 'same as the rest' basis - on ythe other hand it might not survive at all....good heavens....they might even become nothing more than cat food:confused:
