Hi guys,

Yes:grin:  I have had two.  I bought fridge locks from mothercare a pain every time you want to open the fridge but it stops your dinner disappearing:lol:

One of my Cavaliers can open the stair gate, but luckily nobody's worked out the fridge yet! :-D

My dogs couldn't so they got the cat to help, she would sit on the top of the fridge and break the seal then the springer would shove his nose in to open it further and the newfoundland would finish the job by pulling all the edibles out !! I had to be impressed by the teamwork.

I've nicknamed my two Bonnie and Clyde, it started with the cupboards and drawers in the kitchen mysteriously being opened, so I removed anything edible  from the units, I couldn't work out how the units where being opened and by which dog, (my girl is extremely intelligent so my money was on her). I decided to put up a camera and record who was doing what!
To my surprise my boy had it down to a T, in the sitting position he'd put his toes between the lip of the draw or cupboard and pull them towards him, the girl would be egging him on by barking, once opened he'd take no further part, and she would ransack the contents looking for any thing edible, meanwhile my boy would just lie back on his bed!
Initially I thought ill have to crete them whilst I was out, then I decided I'd give child locks ago, they sure have worked, no more getting in the cupboards !
But now they've started on the fridge and its an American Fridge!!!! I'm currently having to wire tier it shut!

Love it! Thankfully ours don't raid the cupboards or fridge, though have heard of many BH's that do.
The older of the two has cracked the stair gate, inserting his nose between the bars, turning sideways to get traction, shuffles backwards breaking the magnetic closure & then the open stairs. Had a rare lay in the other morning & was woken by the gentle tapping of the end of a tail - which means I'm a little unsure of myself, but you won't mind? - & he was curled up in the seat along side the bed watching me.

It's not just dogs either.

My sister has kept ferrets for years, as pets, and when given free-range time indoors, some of hers have proved to be wily little beasties. One used to open the kitchen cupboard doors, climb inside the cupboard and up the back to the rear of the cutlery drawer, then push like mad til the entire drawer fell out spilling knives & forks everywhere.

She had another group of ferrets that were able to open the fridge and steal the bacon... These were actually filmed for a TV show on the intelligence of animals. The TV crew had a camera inside the fridge, and secretly filmed the band of ferrets on the outside, working out how to open the door; then it was another that went into the fridge, pulled out the bacon, got into the package and shared it with the others.

Yes i had a Toller years ago who dd. And the freezer but he didnt do that much as the food was inedible I think. He broke every  child lock we tried. The only thing that eventually stopped him was Encircling the whole fridge in a heavy chain dog lead which we had to lift up to open the fridge.

Ruby a dog I have lost recently didnt bother opening the fridge herself. She would decide she wanted something and would stand staring at me wagging her tail and looking expectant. When I asked what she wanted she would lead me to the fridge and tap the door. When I opened the fridge she would look around until she found what she was looking for and look at me. If it was ok for her to have I usually would give her a little bit.  She wasnt spoilt. Honestly!

She would also indicate the dog food cupboard or the water bowl or head off into the garden if she wanted to play. Hard for me tp refuse when she asked so nicely.
