Hi after several years of seeking agents, areas finally want to take the plunge and buy! Anyone had experience of purchasing abroad? Best use a UK based firm or an English speaking french agent?
Torn between midi pyranees,  Dordogne or Chanteau.

I would recommend Leggetts. They are very efficient and all speak English. They have offices throughout France and a wide range of properties. We are trying to sell our cottage in Normandy at the moment ,without success but no fault of the agents. There's a lot of property around at the moment and buyers thin on the ground. The Euro is weak against the pound, at the moment, so it's a good time to buy.
Good luck !

Thank you I have seen a few with Leggetts on the place in the sun website. We have seen a lovely house just off centre Ribec, handy for bars, shops etc and a small courtyard garden. An hour from Bergerac and 90 minutes from Bordeaux.  Not sure re flights thou as we have seen Bordeaux lose popular airlines.
Are you selling as wish buy elsewhere in France? I do love Brittany just not sure re warmth guaranteed as much as say Charante/Dordogne and mid pyranees.
We stayed near Pau for a whole month and loved it, beautiful city and not touristy. We thought a 1 month rental or 6 in area we wish to buy?good or bad idea? We go to Carcassonne this year and will view a few.

We are just selling, not buying elsewhere. We've had the cottage for 24 years and it has outlived its purpose . The kids loved holidays there and we hosted D-Day veterans and friends etc. Now kids are grown up and it's an expensive hassle crossing the channel with dogs. I would warn you that offlead exercise is very difficult in France so please buy somewhere with your own land. Our place is close to a beautiful forest but notices abound forbidding dogs off lead. This is in Normandy but I'm sure the laws apply in other parts of France.

Wasn't aware of off lead problems. Whenever we have gone always lots of French people with dogs off leads Quiberon, Carnac, and Pyranees.  I'll check thou by laws thanks for heads up. We want to enjoy 10 years owning and our grown up sons enjoying too.
