Any tips for getting US.

Full bladder etc?
- By Brainless [gb] Date 27.04.15 13:52 UTC
Full bladder is best but can't be guaranteed for a bitch.

My Peni peed on the scanners rug :red:, as I had tried to avoid her having a wee on getting out of the car.

Ok thank you.

Lol.. I will carry her in to avoid her peeing. She hates our vets so as soon as we pull up in front she goes into full blown panic mode :-(

I was always told to make sure bladder is empty
For a scan

I've also heard it's the opposite for dogs & to have an empty bladder, but it may be a vet preference

If she hates going to the vet, can you perhaps find a mobile scanner who can come to you? They tend to be more accurate - and cheaper :) Whereabouts are you?

I've tried to find one but the nearest is 200 miles away. I'm in north of scotland.

I'm not 100% sure about US scans in dogs - but in humans they need a full bladder for scans in pelvic area, kidneys, liver, urinary tract, bladder - but for transvaginal scanning the bladder has to be empty. In pregnancy they need a full bladder at early stages of pregnancy but its not necessary with scans very late in the pregnancy.

Maybe its the same with dogs? i.e. depends what is being scanned and what is being looked for?

I asked a friend who does scanning and she said empty bladder which is what another lady said locally, make sure the bladder is empty as puppies can hide behind it on a scan.
