Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / unweaned puppies with weird poos

Hi, i have a litter of puppies, 12 days old and the poos are weird and sickly smelling. The best way I can describe them is they look like frogs spawn, my vet has no ideas, they are quite small for their age and their weight gain is poor although they all seem ok ish, all feed and seem content but the horrible poos concern me. I have been told to worm them now on panacur which I am doing, have done 2 days so far.

Did you worm Mum while she was in whelp for 25 days?  I would not want to worm pups this young.

Has Mum eaten anything odd or over rich.  Certainly with human babies what Mum eats can affect the milk and the poos.

Is she getting 4+ times her normal rations?

If pups are not gaining well do they seem ready for semi solids assuming their eyes are open?

I too think these pups are far too young to put chemicals in when they are already a reason for concern.  What about mum's worming regime?

It just sounds like milk rich poos to me.  It will pass.  It's not nice but I think it is where mum is producing very rich milk and they get these yellowy poos with what looks like little grains of rice in them.

You can worm them at 2-2.5 weeks, so not long to go now....
