Topic Dog Boards / Health / Getting in a state over flea and worming meds
- By goat Date 21.04.15 19:26 UTC
Hi
I'm in a tizzy over flea and worm medications.  I can't decide whether to go down the Bravecto and Milbemax route or the Advocate and Drontal route.  Milbrmax is dosed monthly for worms but Drontal is dosed 3 monthly and I am wondering whether it is better to give less worm tablets than more and likewise to Bravecto dosed 3 monthly and Advoctae monthly.  Do I am wondering shoukd I go for the 3 monthly Bravecto option or the 3 monthly Drontal option.
Sorry I am just really confused I don't like giving chemicals and meds at the best of the time so I am wondering which option is the safest and the best to do.
Thanks

They're all safe. You only need to give Milbemax monthly if you're concerned about lung worms? Are they in your area and do your dogs eat grass that slugs may have been on? If not then usually 3 monthly or even 6 monthly worming is fine.

Advocate doesn't kill ticks, do you have foxes, deer or farm animals in the areas you walk?

I use bravecto for ticks (it also kills fleas but I wouldn't bother with that on it's own) and either milbemaxm, drontal or cestem for 3 monthly worming.

Hi
Thank you for your help :-)
There are foxes in the back gardens where we live we often see them and hear them and my pup loves nothing better than to roll in fox pooh or eat it if he find it!!! he also eats his own so I guess he isn't that discerning lol!
There are also slugs and snails in the gardens.  Interestingly when he was very small liked to eat snails and he had a very bad upset stomach after one such episode.
In light of the above should I go for Milbemax and Bravecto?

Probably

Do you live in an area that has lungworm? If so then I'd worm pup monthly just to be on the safe side, although if he's younger than 6 months he should be wormed monthly anyway.

I'm not sure whether there is lungworm in the area but I shall check at the vet today. Thank you for your really good advice.

Hi
I'm in the same boat, I purchased drontal oral suspension today for the girls, let's say they didn't like the taste, is there a simpler way of giving it as they thrashed around afterwards
