Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Mated again after absorbing last year

Hi, I wonder if you can give me some advice , we have just mated our bitch again, she was mated last year, scanned at 4 weeks, very clearly showed at least 5 puppies, however on rescan at 6 weeks had absorbed them. Just wondering if anyone has experience of this and whether likely to happen again, different stud dog this time !! Xx

Have you had the chv done?

No, but vet put her on 10 day broad spectrum antibiotics, something he always uses on his brood bitches xx

Might be worth giving the chv..... there is a lot of suggestion that it is beneficial when preventing the absorption of puppies

My bitch lost an entire litter ( said to be large litter on scan ) reabsorbed most, 3 born dead.
We were advised to have CHV done and have ever since. Next season she went onto have a litter of 7 with no losses apparent as scan showed it would be this sort of number.
