Topic Dog Boards / Health / Any Advice for retching Lab
- By morganalfie [gb] Date 25.03.15 13:35 UTC
Hi all

just looking for any ideas. At vets at 6 tonight.

10 yr old Lab for the last week has been retching either when lied still or immediately whilst or after eating and drinking.

He is not eating properly and doesnt seem to be of food as he is asking for it and go's to try. He went 24hrs without water til I managed to persuade him this morning and gave him his food with weakened gravy so that he had some fluids in him.

He has also regurgitated his food twice over the last 5 days.

Any idea's

Thanks in advance

It could be a few things, even something like a laryngeal paralysis.  My 12.5 year old does this sometimes after lying down but she does have a bit of LP and some bronchitis (COPD).  Hopefully your vet can shed some light on it. X

Morning

Vet has said Kennel Cough. Which she says is on his chest so has prescribed anti-biotic.  She gave him a anti inflammatory shot and tabs as well.

Tbh I do think his symptoms seem to be more laryngeal parals is than Kennel Cough.

I am abit dubious but I am not a vet I suppose.

We waited outside the vets incase it was KC.

So was quite surprised when she came outside and proceeded to walk us through a rather full waiting area to a treatment room.

She didn't hear him cough; didn't give him a treat to try and hear the retching.

Will just monitor him closely over the next week.

Good thing is a greedy lab is great for feeding tablets to ha ha

I would watch very carefully - we had this with a flatcoat, and it was torsion.

Hi

Just wanted to ad the reason I didnt think it was KC.

Is he is in no contact with any other dogs and the nearest dog is about 4 doors away.

His normal walking route I stopped last year as we had quite a outbreak of Alabama Rot in those areas . So started to stay in our immediate vicinity and more road walking.

And I am sure I would also of heard of more dogs locally with an outbreak of KC

I didn't want o say but I was thinking of fluid on the lungs due to heart trouble, but I assume the vet did listen to the chest???
