Hi, I have a male 7 month old Weimaraner and he is quit skinny. Can someone please try and tell me why ? Cause I feed him good puppy food (Royal Canine) and I give him cooked minced beef nearly every two days and he is still skinny .

It is not unusual for adolescents to be lean. Especially very active ones.
Here is a helpful chart:
http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-evaluate-your-dogs-weight.htmlWe are so used to seeing fat dogs that often a correctly slim dog may seem thin.
Now if he is undernourished, and actually too thin it could be that the food he is on is not being digested well, or you need to feed more. If it isn't the amount and you feed more and he gets the squits then it is more likely the food doesn't suit him.
I'd take him to the vet and get a check up to see if there is anything going on that won't be cured by maturity.

You're better off not cooking the mince, raw is far better. What we always use with skinny youngsters is feeding a chicken wing or two (again raw) in between meals, that really adds the weight. Otherwise I would have said that I've never known any complete food to add weight as much as Royal Canin, in fact it made my dogs too fat.

Another tip is to bake potatoes and add to the food.

My male Weim (now 6) looked like a rescue case at around that age. We could not get weight on him, didn't seem to matter what we tried. But he was otherwise healthy and never lacking in energy so we let him be but watched him closely.
He gained some weight over time but remained very slim until about a year ago when we put him back on 3 meals a day from his previous 2. He was getting the same amount of food, but he's definitely gained weight and is now almost 'normal'. Although I prefer to keep him a little light rather than the opposite.
I don't know why it helped...whether he metabolises the food better or if its just his age...
Thanks all for your reply :) ! Also when I give him his puppy food he doesn't eat it, I have to stir it and try and make him eat it and he doesn't even it half of it after nearly an hour. And when I give him the Medium Dog Royal Canine food he eats it immediatly and I honestly don't know why .

I would give him the one he likes, at least then he is eating. At 7 months it really will not hurt to swop him over onto the adult diet.
I would be tempted to get him onto some raw but if you don't fancy feeding raw then give him the best complete you can afford and that he likes

Its all about giving him something he likes rather than trying to make him eat something he is not keen on but the manufacturers say is "Better" its not better if he won't eat it Lol....
Breast of lamb is good for putting weight on.

I'd still check if he is actually underweight or just seems that way to you due to immaturity.
Thanks all of you guys for the suggestions :) ! I will surely try what you told me
My dog is 8.5 years old and has always been lean. He is simply not a greedy dog and only eats what he wants and he gets all sorts including raw meat. He is well muscled so he's certainly not undernourished. He looked really thin when he was an adolescent but again was eating well and full of energy so I wouldn't worry too much.

Raquel ive sent you a pm. If he's on royal canin, he ideally needs to be on the large breed one, not medium x

Justine, rather than send a PM why not say what you need to on the forum. That way others can share the information you may offer. Also, there are likely to be people reading the forum whom also have the same or similar questions and would appreciate hearing your advice too

I was given the advice by my groomer to feed a few digestive biscuits or raw tripe, to my standard poodle when he was around that age, as he also looked very lean. I started to give him half a dozen biscuits at lunch time to add a few calories. He is now 17 months old and looks filled out now. He only gets the odd one now as a treat!
