Something I've not really had reason to consider until now: in schedules it says that puppies are six and not exceeding twelve months on the FIRST day of a championship show. Does this mean that a puppy whose group is on for argument's sake the third day of a show and that turns 6 months old on that third day, cannot be entered as it was not 6 months old on the first day? Does it also mean that a puppy that turns 12 months on the first day of the show can still be shown as a puppy on the fourth day of the show? In all these years I've never had cause to think of this before.

Yes - it can't be entered

Yes - that happened to me at a Champ Show.  I checked and double checked!!  If you look at the schedule for WELKS this year they helpfully have all the date ranges for age classes - see page 14 and 15 here.  I can't remember for sure but if you are doing an online entry you only get offered the correct age classes anyway don't you?  It's been a while since my boys were that young!

Yeah that's right. My bitches full litter sister was shown as a puppy on her 1st birthday as she was still under 12mnths on the first day of the show.
