Topic Dog Boards / General / Champagne Labrador?

Never heard of this before, looks just like a yellow lab with pale eyes. Only £1500, if you want without endorsements it will cost another £1000! Must be a rare vintage ;)

Somebody will no doubt buy it...a fool and their money....

OMG

Just read the first page that came up when I googled the title

The person ask ts they don't understand genetics,  nor do they want to  ROFL

Then they try to explain in various ways and 'prove'  that the silver,  charcoal and champagne aren't from crossbreeding.

Should win bullsh** writer of the year!

I dearly wish that trading standards would get involved in these cases.   Most of them are out and out fraud.

Aren't these the ones that really are Weimaraner crosses? Rings a bell. Yes a fool and his money indeed......

Sometimes genes do re-mutate, and they usually do so in very common varieties (as they are bred in greater numbers). But even knowing this i still sit on the fence.

"Champagne" would be a yellow with the added dilution gene. Not really that hard to produce if you have the dilution gene in your |Labs as well as yellow, and probably less desirable than the "silvers" and "charcoals" because as you say, it would come out as a very pale yellow with light eyes, nose leather and skin.

Or worst breeder of the year award, last litter of 16 puppies, lost 11 - some got laid on!

Sorry,  tablet playing with my typing.    Should have read 'admits'  rather than the gibberish.

Thing is,  many of these so called 'silver Labs'  actually look like Weimaraner crosses as adults,  their legs are longer,  the body is longer and the ribs a different shape,  neck is longer and the face seems subtly different,   as do the ears....

My brother kept Weimaraners so it's a dog I'm very familiar with ;-)

Indeed - don't it make you SICK.

What really gets me is the price apparently being asked (OP) .......  £1500 with endorsements + ANOTHER £1k without.    Sadly there will be people out there willing, and able to pay!   Good breeders don't sell immature stock without endorsements.

MamaBas can you edit and remove the link? This is the site we have been talking about but don't want to give them more publicity :-)

I will never understand some people. If they cared about the pups, they'd have stayed with them and they'd not have got squashed. If they only cared about making money, surely they'd still have wanted as many as possible alive and so should have stayed with them?! Seems all they care about is getting to sleep themselves and if ANY pup makes it then it's a bonus. :(

An analysis of how and where 'silver'  Labradors originated

From this site

And yes,  I did refer to the other website too but didn't want to give them any publicity,  so avoided quoting directly or linking.

Admin will have to remove the link on mama bas post,  as changes to posts can't be made after quite a short period

Admin will have to remove the link on mama bas post,

It has been removed, and I have to say it's not a very nice feeling even if it was seen to be justified.

> A Dudley?

Probably even lighter than a Dudley due to the additional dilution gene.
