I've finally got my code to put my business onto Google for searches.
Now I've used key words in the ad and now paid for advertising yet when I do a google search on the business using the keys words and the city I put in I don't see my company.
How long does this take to work to go up the rankings and also be shown on the little map of local businesses?

I may need to buy some more domain names and link them in too?
Any ideas for my company to come up on the first page like others? I can't imagine these other businesses have spent much money in doing this so any tips and hints would be helpful.

Thanks

Google keep their formula for the order sites are listed so say "secret" but it is definitely influenced by a few things but mostly the number of hits your site has, the length of time people are on your site, keywords and the number of other sites that have your site link loaded on.  (Get your friends and family to log into your site a lot - get them to mention it on social networks - get the link to your site loaded on as many other sites as you can and/or mentioned anywhere on line that you can -their analytics trace all these things)

Things you can do to help get your site further up the list on search engine results are pretty much covered here:-

Hope it helps.

Things might have changed but soon gave up paying for advertising with Google, as our budget was limited & could only afford so much a day & from memory every time someone logged on through the 'Google add' it cost lets say 20p (think rates varied throughout the day) & soon ate into our daily/monthly budget & not every hit is going to produce business. Also aware that local competitors could just click in & out till our budget was spent & the add disappeared till the next day. Things could have changed.
As mentioned to get you up the listings, need to engage friends, family, anyone to log onto your site. Don't know the nature of your business but is there organisations you could advertise with to begin with? Good Luck, used to spend hours every week logging in to see if we appeared on the first page of a local search.

I've checked and it's clicks on the website from a google search and also clicks to my phone too.

I've had my website shared many times and I also click it a number of times a day. Think it's time to get more posters out and some leaflet drops too.

See if that works and if not then buying more domain names.. That can't hurt can it, don't have much money to spend on huge amounts of advertising.
I thought it would show up on google places when you link in with an address which I have, again still not showing

Believe it takes 24 hours plus, do you have anyone to assist. I'm a real luddite with ours. Good luck.

Sue

How is your website promotion going, have you appeared in Google Local yet ?

I see you have added your details to the Champdogs Business Directory. I am optomistic when we launch the directory in a few months time you will receive plenty of relevant traffic from your listing with us.

With respect to tinar, the link above doesn't really give any useful information, it is full of fluff and is just designed to draw traffic and gain income from the ads on the page.

One of the best forums around if you really want to find out how it all works is http://www.webmasterworld.com.

Be warned however there is as much useful information on WebmasterWorld as there is on Champdogs and once you start reading there we might not see you back on here for days
