Anyone with any suggestions what to use in the cages in the car for my two aussies. I have been using towels but got so many dirty one and with our washing cannot get it dry as unfortunately do not have a tumble dryer. I have a rubber mat in there but they get so wet I was using towels to absorb some of it before they got home. I need something that will dry quickly or throw away each time.

Can't beat vet bed really, It absorbs the wet and dries very quickly.
I find I can wash it and hang it over a chair and its dry in an hour

I have rubber matting with vet bed on top too. They dry really quickly too when hung up

Rubber backed vet bed for the cages in the van. I find normal vet bed just slide around in cages if you are driving, but the rubber backed ones are great and yes they still dry very quickly. :) I just cut them to size to fit the cages exactly.

I bought large micro-fibre towels from Mountain Warehouse (but they must be available elsewhere) after recommendations here and they dry Tara (Aussie) well and are very easy to wash and dry. However, I just put up with a lot of the dirt and keep her confined to the kitchen at home until she is dry (drier :) ) I'm lucky that I have a large area of grass at home which just makes her wet rather than muddy as our (rural, single track) roads are covered with mud so walking her out of home is always muddy :(

Wonder if those yellow 'aquamats' would help, possibly not as replacements for vetbed but for mopping as you put them into the car so the vetbed could go longer between washing.
You need to use them wet then wrung out so they are damp and they are brilliant for mopping up wet and wiping off mud then just rinse under the tap and nice and clean again.

I use rubber matting with vet bed ontop. I seen a shamay sort of towel for soaking up water in PAH but it was quite expensive so I was frightened to buy it incase it didn't work. Only thing I would say, don't get white!!lol I made that mistake for the back of the car once :O I now buy brown. Matches the dogs!!lol

Rubber mat topped with those cheap 'duvet' things seen at most shows. They tend to be cotton, stitched right through and wash and dry much quicker than towels.

Easily solved. Daily washing. And vetbed really, really dries super fast. (I have my washing machine on daily, but also have no tumble drier.) My own washing has to hang around much longer than the dogs!

Another vote for vetbed :-D
Washes and dries in next to no time :-)
And what no-one has touched on, is how long it lasts too :-D I have vet beds here that are ten years old, in regular use and still as good as new!
There's good reason why vets and breeders use it :-D
I also don't use a tumble dryer, despite having one in a cupboard. I prefer to use the Victorian airers I have and the washing line on the odd occasion that it isn't raining..

I find the normal backed vet bed lasts a lot longer then the rubber baked which goes flat and raggy after a while.
I have pieces of Profleece, albeit some strange shapes, that are 15 or more years old.
I still have two pieces of white vet bed bought for my first litter in 1995!

Asolutely agree - vet bed!! For the reasons stated by Aileen!! And provided you buy the 'real' vet-bed, not a cheap alternative, they certainly do last. Having said that, my Whippet travels on a thick pad in her crate which fits it exactly, and given she's light and a vet-bed would slide around, stays put. I put a towel on the top if the weather is foul.
For getting dirty - if you buy a brown vet bed, at least the dirt won't show!!!

I have found if you buy the rubber backed doormats sold at shows (formerly from commercial premises) and cut them to fit the cage/crate and then put normal vet bed on top it doesn't travel, and both can be washed in the washing machine.
That is what I do with crates, that have metal trays, in the house.
The doormat only needs washing occasionally as of course in that situation doesn't get wet.
