I wonder if anybody can help me with any explanations? Sadly on the 19th September my labrador puppy died very suddenly. She was born on the 19th July, so was only 14 months old. She was found when I awoke on the said morning dead at the end of my bed. I rushed her to the vet where they checked her heart and her eyes and said she had already died. I was offered no explanation as to what had happened to her. She was a full pedigree and I have all the papers on her parents and grandparents. I have since e-mailed the breeders twice and phoned them to see if there were any other puppies who had met the same fate, but the breeders have still never got back to me.

I would like to know if anyone out there may have any explanations to what may have happened to a 14 month old puppy who showed no signs whatsoever of being ill.

I'm afraid the only way you would know for sure would be a full post mortem. I have heard various theories for sudden death, and it being likened to Cot death, one theory being a sudden surge of electrical activity that causes like a short circuit in the brain.

I do think it unfortunate that your breeder has not replied to you, have you tried sending a letter recorded delivery? Even if they can shed no light on what may have happened I would imagine they would at least want to sympathise with your loss, if they are a reputable breeder.

So sorry to hear of your loss
cannot shed any light unto the cause,
but our best wishes go out to you

Hello guest, I agree......the only way to be truly sure would have been to have a PM done. It could have been a heart problem. I had a wolfhound puppy die in a similar way at six months of age. Whatever the reason, Im so sorry for your loss. As for the breeder, I think a recorded delivery letter sounds a good idea.
