Having read a message on this messageboard by a guest i thought i would just like to add that i used to breed Akita's,Rottweillers & Schnauzers and we never ever had a litter from a bitch who had only had a slip mating.
A freind of ours went into breeding/exhibiting Bulldogs & he went to a reputable breeder of Bulldogs for a mating for his red/white bitch and this gentleman charged him a £500 stud fee to use his CC winning dog when my friend came back with his bitch and told me it had been mated in 2 minutes and that he'd just been sitting in the gentlemans house drinking coffe & chatting for the best part of 2 hours i couldn't help but laugh in astonishment!
I asked my freind if the dog had tied with the bitch and he said 'no' the owner of the stud dog dosen't allow them to tie as its too dangerous and you only need a slip mating to produce puppies.
The bitch was mated the same way 2 days later as agreed but 9 weeks later there was no puppies.
The next time the bitch was in season he went back to the same stud dog & exactly the same happened again & he paid another £500 with no puppies at the end of it.
I didn't really want to interfere in my freinds business but i couldn't stand there & watch him shell out another £500 on the bitch's next season so i went with him to the same dog for the 3rd time & i had a chat with the man & whilst we were talking one of his freinds came round with a bitch for his other CH. dog to mate his wife put the bitch in with the dog and believe it or not he let them tie.
And when i asked him why he wouldn't let the dog my freind wanted to use tie with his bitch his answer was that he didn't know the bitchs temperament properly & that his freinds bitch was a proven dam.
Anyway to cut this long story short i argued with him until he agreed to give my freind a free mating (just one) seen as he'd already robbed him of £1000 so in we went with the bitch and they mated properly & tied for 30 mins. 9 weeks later she had 8 healthy (big) puppies 4 of each all whelped naturally.
So my point is always try and ensure a tie mating if you can as i don't believe slip matings work 90% of the time.

Hi firstly i would like to say in my years of being brought up with dog breeding and helping out with matings weve had plenty of bitches produce puppies with a slip mating. when we take a bitch to be served we have always done it on the understanding that if she didnt produce pups we could go back to the same dog for a second free mating, weve never been charged for a repeat mating. I think this gentleman is being ripped off and pesonally would not take another bitch back to him. best regards gwen
