My 5 year old gsd has a sore on his hock, which is not healing despite being on a course of anti biotics, it is red and swollen, although it is not causing any lameness, or seem painful to him, the vet treated it saying he thought it was an insect bite, have you any ideas or suggestions?

Is it a lick sore ? our boy had one -no visible 'head' to it but raised and swollen -we had to watch him like a hawk to break the habit the more they lick the more raw it becomes -other than that sorry can't help

Yes I reckon that could very well be what is happening, did you apply anything to the sore when your dog had it?

Hiya -no we didn't put anything on it we just had to distract him when he did lick it -to give it a chance to dry off ,Once it had dried and scabbed over he lost interest ! It took about a week -ten days though with eyes in the back of our heads ;)
Hth
