I haven't looked through this yet but thought people would be interested and good to get people's views.

Took me well over an hour to read it all. Lots said -some good, some not so good, lots of waffle about other things -but the end of it all was simply: no new law.

Oh dear that is a shame I only got to the part where the one MP said my dogs love me then another MP said his didn't then the MP replied back not surprised ! :-D

So what was the vote numbers then and was there a move to reconsider and revise the motion or I assume that will have to be by lobbying again ?

There was no voting, just a load of talking....

So if there was no voting how do you know that it won't go forwards to progressing to a new law ?

It was just a debate, not at attempt to make a law. It was intended to raise awareness and put pressure on MPs and political parties, so that at some point in the future a government may introduce a law. It was a useful exercise. Such debates do raise awareness and shape opinion. But there's a very long way to go even to get to the beginning of a legislative process.

read a good chunk of it, Doesn't seem hopeful that anything will happen as it seems most of them were going on about that what is needed is education so people can make the right choice themselves or inforcement of current legistration or that local counciles already inspect places rather than phocousing on talking about banning the sales of puppies/kittens in pet shops which is what it was ment to be about. Both of which will make no difference as most puppy farms are already licenced and still get away with crappy conditions and are within there licence to sell pups to a pet shop under the age of 8 weeks. Education wont help as people who know about puppy farms still get pups from pet shops as the shops tell them if they ask that the pups come from breeders so they assume they came from a good breeder or they know full well the pup comes from a puppy farm but buy it any way to 'save it'.

Early Day Motion? is that the correct political term?
They are never really serious attempts at reform, just a way for someone on a soapbox to be heard.

Also at the end of the day councils don't want to stop commercial breeding of dogs, it brings them in money with the licence. Here in wales at one point the welsh government was giving out grants for people to start up breeding dogs for money! When people have been found breeding large scale with out a licence in bad conditions what have the councils done, gave them a licence. I was also told when a friend of a friend was applying for his pet shop licence that it costs more money if you want puppies/kittens added to your licence (he wasn't applying to have them added to his) so again the council get more money from pet shops licenced to sell puppies.

"Early Day Motion? is that the correct political term?"

No, EDMs are not even debated, just signed by any MP who wants to associate themself with that cause. They really are a waste of time and money.
