Anyone imported from the Czech republic - looking for some idea on costs of importing small/medium breed (8-10kg adult but would probably be pup) and options/costs of travel.

Rules same as any listed/EU country.

The rest is how long's a piece of string.

Cheapest option is probably to drive over, as flights into UK have to be approved routes and if into Heathrow will add £500ish to the Cargo charges.

Minimum age is 3 calendar months plus 21 days.  Assuming Rabies vaccination done at 3 months there is a 21 day wait before you can enter another EU country on Pet passport.

I've imported a pup from Slovakia, but he flew in from Prague. As Brainless said, rabies jab done at 3 months and pup can travel 21 days after that. The flight for my Ridgeback pup cost £500 and he flew into Manchester airport. No extra charges on top of that. The flight was organised by Ladyhayes and I would happily recommend them. The breeder emailed copies of all the paperwork to them the day before he flew so it could all be checked before he was actually put on the plane. They made it very simple :)

Thanks both - if flying would be into Manchester from Prague, will look into Ladyhayes, thankyou

Then if it's Manchester then you need to do the sums. Cost and convenience.

I'd never buy sight unseen (from photos only), unless you know the breeder, can trust them, and WANT the bloodlines.   Otherwise it's a huge outlay compared with buying from the home-market.   I'd urge you to go there in person, or have somebody you can trust to go look.    We are currently getting a load of quite badly bred puppies from Eastern Europe coming into this country.    We imported a couple of dogs from the UK into Canada, but they came from breeders we knew personally, and even then, with our foundation bitch, we had the breeder/friend of our second hound go to the kennels and help choose what they both thought was the best of the two bitches available.   The breeder would have much preferred me to go there and choose but this wasn't possible at the time.   With both these puppies, who were over 5 months when I bought them by the way, so we all had a better idea of their quality, I was buying them for their bloodlines above anything else.   The fact they both gained their Can.titles was an extra bonus.

Your choice but again, I'd be more inclined to buy from here.

Thanks Mamabas - a lot of thought has gone into bringing these puppies in (for their bloodlines) the breeder is personally known by a friend and they have visited a couple of times previously :) The breeder is aware of what is desired in the pups and is interested in their 'potential' show career in the UK. if there was any doubt as to their potential she would not allow them to come to the UK.

My pup came over via road ( from Sweden ) and as I shared the costs with other owners on the trip I paid £475 in total.
