Yesterday afternoon took my girl out for a walk and a swim, it was still hot but was starting to cool off. The pavement was just warm not hot and we had her cooling coat. But when we arrived there was a couple with a load of dogs, one an old lab who was refusing to walk anymore. It was laying on the floor panting away sounding very raspy yet the owners were calling and calling it to try to encourage it to get up and follow them. At one point one owner got the dog up and it walked a few paces then later back down again. We did comment it looked like it had had enough but they just said year it's so hot while still trying to get it to go thurther. We carried on our walk and could still hear then calling it, I said to the person with me that I wouldn't be suprised if the poor thing collapses. We decided halfway around to turn and go back the way we came as you can see better what's coming which means I can let mine off the lead. As we got not far from where we left them they were standing there. We stopped and had a chat and the other owner came over from the end saying he had to take the lab back to the car as its back legs gave out. So they must have been trying to get it to walk that whole time as he was coming from the carpark. So the dog then had to sit in the car while they walked the rest of them.

Then the day befor that my friend was telling be about someone from the area had said that there dog had died while driving in the car and they had only driven a mile, of course getting alot of sympathy from people. My friend then said she said about it to her mother who said that she had to call the police as someone had left there dogs in there van outside a supermarket and the dogs were panting with blue tounges, and she didn't know what happen to them. Well strangely enough the dogs inthe van was the two same breeds this person has so it must have been the same person.

I've got to the stage where I want to shout at people walking their poor dogs in the midday sun, but I'd be the one arrested for unreasonable behaviour, not the cruel owners :(

When are people going to learn?

Those poor poor dogs :-(

These are needless deaths, it isn't as if people don't know about it being hot!

So much truth in the saying

"Mad dogs, and Englishmen go out in the midday sun...."   :-(

The owners should be prosecuted for animal cruelty and neglect.

Then tied to a stake in the midday sun.  Without water.

As I have said on a previous thread so many people don't know/realise that dogs don't cope with heat.

I saw the most astoundingly stupid woman this morning, I was driving back down the access road to the hill car park, this was at about 9am, and there, trotting up the middle of the road, were two young GR's, no owner, except for a car parked in one of the passing places.
I stopped the car as the dogs were right in the middle of the road, a woman eventually hauls herself out the car and puts them into the side, as I drove past her, I rolled down the window had commented what a stupid thing to do, she just grinned, idiot.
I then caught sight of her in my rear view mirror, get in her car and drive off with the dogs running behind !.
If I catch her at it again I'll get her registration and report her.
I really couldn't believe anyone could be so stupid !.

My dog didn't get a walk on saturday.  He had been lounging in the garden all day and when I picked up his collar and lead he looked at me as if to say 'I don't think so' and that was that.  We have been going out from 9pm onwards over the past few weeks and not for long either as it's just not fair on him.  I don't want to be walking round for hours in this heat and I'm pretty sure he doesn't either.

We've not been going far either, just down to the fields a few yards from the house, where the dog jumps into the stream and gallops up and down splashing water everywhere, then sits in it for a while. I just slowly walk along the footpath, not wanting to go far myself. Isla plays in the water getting thoroughly muddy, then we stroll back to the house for a hose down and a snooze. Quite nice really.
