I think we will show our WFT puppy at a local show in August when she will be just 6 months.  Although they do have the WFT breed specified in the terrier group there is no puppy class nor is there in the other terrier classes.  So I will have to enter her for the AVNSC puppy class.  In the WFT class there is just Junior or Open.   Can someone tell what these terms mean please?

Thanks for your help.

If there are breed classes at the show, you CANNOT enter AVNSC, those classes are only for breeds not classified at all. It doesn't matter that there is no puppy class. A Best Puppy will still be declared, even if it is entered in Junior, Post Grad or even Open (some Open shows have just one class per breed). Junior is for dogs aged 6 to 18 months. Open for all dogs of the breed of any age, including Champions, so the top class.

I would enter her in junior (that's 18 months or younger). So you will be with other young dogs. :) open would be any dog of any age of that breed. My pup is 11 months and we entered a graduate class last weekend as there wasn't a pup class - but the open class can sometimes be quite big, and in theory an adult dog against a pup should win as it is a "fully formed example of the breed". Although some disagree. It is judge preference after all :)

Or if there is AV puppy in the terrier group she go into that if you didn't want her in the junior breed class

You don't really have anything to lose by entering the Junior class. After all, at her age it's all about practice and experience. As Goldmali has said, a best puppy in breed will be declared anyway. In your position, I would enter WFT Junior and also 1 variety class. Enjoy your showing.

On this occasion, please dont make the mistake of entering Any Variety Not Separately Classified, as you say there is Wire Fox Terrier Junior & Open, so the breed is classified. As others have said you can go in Junior & should you be the highest placed puppy, you can challenge(yes, there may also be a puppy in the open class) for Best Puppy in Breed.

You want her in WFT Junior, and if there's AV Terrier put her in the Puppy class. Is it Thetford show? I'm going to that probably.

if you look in any schedule all the terms are defined under Definitions of classes
